Insane Tony’s Local Music Brunch Hour – Puffy Elvis

Growing up I always thought most teachers lived at the school where they teached. I mean sleep, eat, have their birthday parties there the whole 9.5 yards. I thought I had them all figured out, especially their unawesomeness levels as a person. As I grew older and some of my closest friends became teachers my theories went out the car window.

One group of educators from one certain institution are shattering the normal perception of teachers on the Cape. You mix together current and some retired teachers and throw in a dash of one alum and you get “Puffy Elvis“. The Puffy ones have been rocking retirement parties, festivals, and booze cruises since 2008. Drummer T-Money Mac says “We play a mix of covers from the 60s-today. Definitely some Cool Classics in the mix. Everything from rock, blues, funk, etc. we have a list of about 40 songs, but also have worked on the occasional original”.

Puffy Elvis consist of Joe MacCauley- vocals, Tom Messer- guitar, Mon Soon- guitar/vocals, “Boom Boom” Celeste- bass, T Money Mac-drums, Susie Cronin- vocals, Lindsay Ruthven-vocals, Greg Gilbert-trumpet, D Mo-trombone, Edwards-trumpet/keys.

” The self proclaimed fifth best cover band of mostly teachers on Cape Cod. We were born from the unholy union of Mr. Holland and Satan”, says T-Money Mac.

You can catch Puffy Elvis at The Beach House today from 4-7. So bring your dancing shoes, and the kids down to see what the hype is surrounding these Elvisites. Be sure to do your homework before you come though or you may get a detention. If you see Guadalupe Hidalgo on the dance floor be sure to give him a high five.

Insane Tony’s Local Music Lunch Hour – Andrew Lowenstein

When you are called the God Father of anything it pretty much means you’re a boss. Andrew Lowenstein is known here on Cape Cod as the Godfather of the jam scene. So all you young aspiring jam bands here on the Cape better get your work permit from the boss. Andrew’s all about the music whether it be playing in one of his numerous bands, or doing the solo thing.

Most interviews I conduct for this section are through email or other technological avenues. Andrew’s was amazingly different, I used this device called a phone. For those of you that don’t look up from your screen, the phone is a device that allows you to actually talk and listen to another person without typing. I know ludicrous …right.

Back to the boss. Andrew tried out the vagabond rock and roll lifestyle for a bit but ended up back where his heart is… good ol’ Cape Cod. Before settling down he traveled the world and toured the U.S with many different bands. He spent time in Oregon, Key West, Florida, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, California – always chasing the dream.

Now settled back on the right side of the bridges, the list of venues that he has played reads like a where’s where of Cape Cod. Those venues include The Willow Field Tavern, Quahog Republic, The Hunt Club, Joe’s Twin Villa, The Pilot House, Mashnee Island, and The Beach House to name a few. Some of the Bands that he has been involved in are The Triclones, Who’s Your Daddy, Slow Children, Better off Dead, and my favorite The Whitey Tighties.

Many of the band mates that he has played with all hail from or live in the same general area. He refers to them as the Gypsy’s of North Falmouth. He has been on the live music scene for so long , it’s his turn to be “The old guy”. When I asked what he thought of the current music scene here on the cape he said that it was “Inspiring”. He also made it very clear the new age has to put in the work off the Cape, as well as here on the mother land.

So young musicians, listen to your godfather, put in the work, and bust your ass.

You can catch Andrew playing tonight and every Thursdays at The Beach House from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (Old guy musician hours).

Insane Tony Needs A Flux Capacitor

I am putting an A.P.B out for Captain Blackstrap Molasses Honeycutt. If this pirate is still around we need to bring our forces together and find ol’Blackstrap. If Molasses face isn’t still doing his pirate thing , we need to get our Marty McFly on and go back a few years so we can tip back a few pints with this guy.

There’s not many things better than getting absolutely cocked with a pirate. Not that I’ve gotten blasted with a pirate yet in my life, but I’m making it my mission from here on out to get hammered and then driven around in this fine piece of machinery. Help me get on this truck/boat??? I don’t care what you call it just get me on it NOW!!!!!!!!

Editor’s note: I will seriously get emails from people saying that this video is a few years old and that Insane Tony is out of his mind with this. Yah NO SHIT people, his name is INSANE Tony! Stop trying to make sense of what he writes or does, it will only make you insane as well.

Insane Tony’s Local Music Lunch Hour – Breaking News! Bulife And Ceej At The Beach House

bulife2

The day has arrived! We here at the Real Cape are excited to announce our first musical promotion. After months of negotiations and hundreds of pints of beer we will finally throw our first sanctioned shindig.

Our homeboys from the tip of the map, The Bulife will make their first appearance here on the upper cape. On their way to Fal-town the Cape hip hop train will also scoop up Mighty Ceej from Hy-town.

The destination for the train will be The Beach House in North Falmouth. Be sure to mark March 14th down on your calender as a do not miss party. It will also be the day Cape historians look back and say “March 14th in the year of our lord 2014… The Real Cape changed the game.”

Editor’s note: The Bulife guys have been Real Cape since day one. We’ve featured them on this site more than once because they are insanely talented. This show is our way of getting real deal homegrown artists out there to people who care about good music. We’ve been working on this for a while and it will be an absolute can’t miss show. Like Tony said we are aiming to change the game on Cape Cod, make sure you are there for the first roll of the dice.

Insane Tony’s Local Music Lunch Hour – The Local Music Community Comes Together

jimmy d

So as the resident music expert here at Real Cape Headquarters I feel the need to chime in on our boy, local musician Jimmy D’s recent bad luck. This guy is as about as fuckin awesome as they come in case you have been under a pile of clam bellies and haven’t heard. So if you are that person and suffer from clam belly pile syndrome, let me fill you in.

Last Friday morning Jimmy rolled out to his car to head to work, and realized some ass clown, piece of shit, heartless wench, fuck face had stolen over 2 G’s worth of his equipment. So this is when his special lady friend Erica took a stand. She started a fundraising push on the site www.fundme.com, to help raise some cash so Jimmy could replace his stolen equipment. Little did either one of them know what was ahead in the next few hours. The donations started pouring in like beers at a Real Cape meeting. In just 5 hours there had been 2,300 raised on the site, as of this this morning it is up over 4 G’s. Still not sure what to do with the extra $ , he said he may use the overflow to help record his album or donate it to a local charity.

There is a bigger picture to come out of this unfortunate event. This minor act of doucheness by some random ass donkey. It has shown how much awesome sauce is pouring all over the music scene here on good ol’ Cape Cod. To see the community come together for Sir Jimmy makes me really feel all squishy inside. This takes me back to the summer of ’13 and the saga of” Local Crapgate.” Where a certain restaurant posted on the Facebook “What a crazy night at the *#$&#*..downstairs is packed listening to the incredible “Bat” and up its Hypercane rocking the house.. Boston Bruins favorite band.. and the !$@%^&..where you see Quality Entertainment from Boston and beyond..not the local crap!”( full story) Boy did that Face post catch the wrath of the local powers that be.

Growing up here I am sure at some point we all have said or thought “Fuck , this place sucks”.(you are lying if you say you have never said/thought this) Then these two stories are just two little reminders of how great of a place this crazy filled peninsula is. But hey, THIS IS OUR CRAZY FILLED PENINSULA!

P.S Who ever did steal Jimmy D’s shit we will not forget. Our Real Cape detective team is on it. Don’t let us catch ya. Turn yourself in.

P.s.s- If any pawn shops in New Bedford read this, give us a call when the thieves show up to sell Jimmy’s equipment.

Insane Tony’s Lunch Hour – Support Cape Open Mic Nights From House of Bud’s To J.R. Brody’s

mic smoke

Back when I was a 21 year old semi-sane Tony, I remember some some of the best nights out were going to open mic nights. Now as a more experienced Insane Tony it seems that the open mic nights are fading away. For you un-fun, not going out to see live music people that don’t know what open mic night is let me break it down for ya.

These nights devoted to open mic have a wide range of musical talent from acoustic guitar singer/songwriters to hip hop acts. Then throw in some guitar ripping metal, a dash of poetry and maybe a stand up comedian. It’s like iTunes puked all over the place holding a microphone. That was the thing I loved the most about these nights, you would get a taste of every genre. Also it would bring out a wide range of people that were all there to support the local talent. It also gave me an opportunity to see artists I usually wouldn’t go out to see. The other highlight of these nights are when the artists collaborate with one another.

I know some will say “Tony you big fat dummy it’s winter time on the Cape.” After years of research about winters here I have come to the conclusion that you can in fact still have fun. Although the open mic nights seem to be dying off, I know for a fact that Joe’s in Orleans, House of Bud’s in Hy-town and J.R. Brody’s and Grumpy’s Pub in Fal-town are resurrecting this boner-riffic night. So I am putting every spot with an entertainment license on notice, do yourself and the local talent in your area a favor and help bring the open mic night back to life.

See this is the type of collaboration I’m talking about. Acoustic hip-hop? Yes please.

GO OUT AND SEE AND SUPPORT LOCAL LIVE TALENT!
