Travel And Leisure Names 6A On Cape Cod One Of America’s Best Winter Drives

6a

Travel + Leisure – Starting Point: Hyannis, MA

The Route: 60 miles on Massachusetts Highway 6A

What to Expect: Few North American beaches compare to Cape Cod National Seashore in winter, where the snow filters through the dune grass and gathers on the beach like a monk’s mandala. Worth hopping out, but if you want to stick to your car, a brief one-mile stretch between Truro and Provincetown offers the most scenic views.

It’s always funny hearing outsiders talk so highly about something we take completely for  granted. To Cape residents 6A to P-Town is a boring ride that takes forever and you’re lucky if you don’t get pulled over somewhere along the way. It’s like running the gauntlet. It’s articles like this that remind me how good we have out here on this peninsula. We literally dread the drive that the rest of the country dreams of taking just once in their life.

“Ugh I’m so pissed, I have to drive out to P-Town next week” – Cape Codders

“Hopefully someday we can take a vacation on The Cape and take a drive to P-Town” – Everyone Else

Just another example of Cape Cod problems being a little different than real problems.

It wouldn’t be a national article about Cape Cod if it didn’t get at least one thing completely wrong though…

Where to Stop: At any beach access point, massive black-and-white eiders (sea ducks) floating aloft the breakers and gulls battling head down into the bracing wind inspire us to dig into the sand and forge forward. Boardwalk strolls through Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Reserve andWellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary offer additional protection for the birds—and you.

Hey Travel and Leisure if you start out in Hyannis and drive 6A to Provincetown you are gonna have a hard time stopping in Waquoit. You might want to think about looking at a map of Cape Cod before you publish the next article about how well you know the place, nice try though.

Felon Arrested In Hyannis On Heroin Charges

Barnstable Police
Barnstable Police

BARNSTABLE — A man with a long criminal record and a penchant for leading police on chases was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

On Tuesday afternoon, two officers found Donnell Pina hiding in the back seat of a Ford Focus at the Hertz Rent-A-Car on Stevens Street in Hyannis, Balcom said.

When Barnstable police Sgt. Mark Mellyn and Detective John York approached the car, they saw Pina throw a plastic baggie, which contained about 13 grams of heroin, on the floor of the car, Balcom said.

In February, he allegedly rammed three police cruisers during a chase on Willow Street in Yarmouth. Police said they found 10 bags of heroin and cocaine hidden between his buttocks that day. A heroin possession arrest in Maine in November led to the bail violation.

Well at least Donell is getting a little bit easier to capture. I guess that’s what happens when you get older and lose a step in the drug dealing game. It’s kind of sad actually, like watching Michael Jordan when he was a Washington Wizard and was holding on too long past his prime.

Just a year ago Donnell was at the top of his game leading cops on a big chase while ramming not one or two, but THREE cruisers before hiding 10 bags of blow and dope in his ass. Fast forward to yesterday and they find him crouched in the back of a parked Ford Focus with a bag lying on the floor next to him like some minor leaguer with no talent. He can’t even pull off the ass hide move anymore the poor thing.

Just sad when a five tool player like Donnell doesn’t know when to hang ’em up and retire. Reading this was like watching Mike Tyson get his ass kicked in his last few fights.

Insane Tony’s Local Music Lunch Hour – No Place Special House Concerts

noplac

We all know that even on Friday’s it can be a drag finding something meaningful to do on The Cape in the winter. Well this Friday you could go to your same usual spot, or you can enjoy some live local music and donate to a wonderful cause. The place I am talking about is known as “No Place Special” in Mashpee.

The owners Rick and Sue Furlani have been a staple on the live music scene here on Cape Cod since before the casino was on the fun police radar. For years you would see them with their two daughters Elizabeth and Emily. A few years ago the two girls passed and became Rick and Sue’s angels and they hold these concerts in hopes of turning NPS into a retreat center for families and caregivers of terminal children.

So get off your ass and make it over to the ‘Shpee to support these two music loving dance machines. The esteemed John Beninghof, Daniel Byrnes , and Christian McNeill will be there rocking the house.

Visit the No Place Special Facebook Page

P.S If you need anymore convincing watch this Video. Get out and see and support live music!

They Are Closing The Canal For Two Weeks… Wait, What?

canal

Capenews.net – The US Coast Guard announced yesterday that will they will be closing the Cape Cod Canal to boat traffic during the day, for two weeks at the end of this month, in order to do maintenance work on the canal’s vertical-lift railroad bridge.

The Coast Guard said that the canal will be closed between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM Monday, January 20, through Friday, January 31.

My grandmother used to say “You don’t know shit about nothin'” and after reading this I realize she was right. Does this happen? Has anyone ever heard of them shutting down The Canal for two weeks? I would think this is a bigger deal than closing the Mass Pike.

If they can do something this dramatic maybe they could close the bridges for a few weeks this summer and give us a little break from the tourists. We could set up bleachers so we could all see the looks on their faces when they are told Cape Cod is closed for two weeks.

People Guilty Of ‘Bad Parking On Martha’s Vineyard’ Get Publicly Shamed On Facebook

bad parking mv

MV Patch.com – Park in front of a bike rack? Straddle the lines at Stop & Shop or Cronig’s? Block driveways, intersections and other cars?

Sure, you can do it here on freewheeling Martha’s Vineyard. Just be prepared to have your vehicle photographed and posted on the “Bad Parking on MV” Facebook page, along with some tart comments from eyewitnesses and others who belong to the 543-member open group.

Now this is a fantastic idea! There is nothing worse than someone who parks like an asshole, it can ruin your entire day. The driver of that pick up truck on the right in the photo above is just an absolute sociopath with an utter disregard for human life. That guy NEEDS to be shamed. So if you are on The Vineyard you should join this Facebook page immediately, and if you are in a town that doesn’t have a bad parking page you should start one up.

Assholes everywhere have been flouting the rules of society with no consequences for long enough. It is time we stand up to these savages and show them they will no longer get away with these atrocities. We may not be able to sentence them to stoning in public anymore but we can do something much worse, we can sentence them to be publicly ridiculed on Facebook.

What Would The Cape Fun Police Think Of This Falmouth Heights Photo From The ’70’s?

001

This is not a special occasion, it is just a normal day at The Casino in Falmouth back in the day. What would happen if you took a few of the fun police back in time and dropped them on the Heights beach in the 70’s? I am pretty sure their heads would explode. They would just immediately pack up their shit and move to a gated community in Boca.

Thanks to Irwin Fletcher for the photo
