The Beach House Will Be Rocking All Weekend

steve smith

Most places are slowing down for the season, but not The Beach House. They’ve got four bands in three days and it all kicks off in about an hour with Better Off Dead playing some acoustic Grateful Dead Tunes.

Later tonight at 9 pm Steve Smith and The Nakeds, all 300 or so of them, will be playing some good old fashioned rhythm and blues.

Saturday night it’s the return of Eight Feet Tall with their mix if Hip Hop and funk. Horn section? Check.

No Pats on Sunday but no worries because the afternoon will bring The Baha Brothers from 5-8 pm with a little taste of summer smack dab in the middle of October.

So there you go, something for everybody, don’t say there’s nothing to do on Cape Cod in the off season.

A MUST READ For Anyone Who Defended Joe’s Lobster Mart – Game, Set, Match.

joe's

CapeNews.net – When Michael Bryant sold Joseph A. Vaudo 800 stolen oysters last October 26 at Joe’s Lobster Mart in Sandwich, the transaction was nothing new, according to Mr. Bryant.

The incident led the state Department of Public Health to seek a revocation of the seafood permits held by Mr. Vaudo and Joe’s. A superior court judge now is deciding whether to allow the state agency to shut down the lobster mart pending an appeal of the revocation.

Last October’s incident, however, may not have been a one-time occurrence, according to court testimony.

In response to questioning at his sentencing August 1 at Barnstable Superior Court, Mr. Bryant acknowledged that he had stolen thousands of oysters last year from private shellfish and town-owned oyster grants in the mid-Cape area.
Michael A. Trudeau, first assistant district attorney for the Cape and Islands, ticked off the thefts:

• 9,000 oysters on June 15 from two private grants and a grant owned by the Town of Dennis
• 12,000 oysters on July 19 from a private grant
• Oysters worth between $7,000 and $10,000 on July 23 from a private grant
• 3,000 oysters on July 29 from a Town of Barnstable grant

Mr. Bryant proceeded to acknowledge to Judge Gary A. Nickerson, who was hearing his change of plea to guilty, that he had stolen the oysters.

“So on all these times when you stole the oysters, what did you do with the oysters?” Judge Nickerson asked.

“I sold them, sir.”

“Where?”

“To Joe’s Fish Market.”

“On all the various occasions?”

“Yes, sir.”

End the debate. Take his license, and until then STOP shopping at Joe’s Lobster Mart.

All of the people that have been commenting and defending Joe’s, about how we are all entitled to make mistakes and that Joe made a one time bad decision can now politely comment on this to apologize, you were all 100% wrong.

He repeatedly bought tens of thousands of oysters stolen from the public and from honest hard working Cape Codders. He sold them back to an unsuspecting public. Some of the oysters came from contaminated areas and could have posed a health risk. He completely undermined the entire local industry he was supposedly a champion and a staple of.

This guy completely fucked over the entire Cape, this was not a “mistake”, this was a pre meditated criminal operation that took peoples livelihoods away from them. It could have been you, your brother, your friend. He basically stole from all of us in one way or another. Screw him, and if you still shop there, screw you too.

4 Cape Cod Grandmother’s Are Going To Trial For Trespassing At Pilgrim Nuclear

cape pilgrim nuclear

CapeCodToday.com – The trial for four Cape Cod women, arrested during a Mother’s Day protest at the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant is set to begin at 9 a.m. Friday morning, Oct. 17 in Plymouth.

The four women, all grandmothers and members of the anti-nuclear group Cape Downwinders, were charged with trespassing at the Entergy-owned facility in Plymouth last May.

The woman placed flowers and “tiny makeshift coffins” at the gates of the facility to reportedly symbolize the company’s threat to the health and well-being of children, according to a Cape Downwinders release.

I know people get sick of me ranting about government officials and executives acting like idiots, but come on! How has somebody not ended this before it goes to trial? This is like Erin Brockovich on steroids. The big, bad nuclear company is prosecuting grandmother’s for planting flowers? Mr. Burns from the Simpson’s would be jealous.

Even if I worked for Pilgrim I would try to convince them that this is a horrible idea. Not just because of common sense, but from a PR standpoint alone. Drop the charges and the story dies. Keep it going and it’s in the press every step of the way. Also, if it succeeds? You are the company that put Nana in fucking jail! Tough for anyone to side with a giant corporation after they have Granny sentenced to 5-10 in Sing Sing for committing 3rd degree horticultury.

The Days (Flower) Cottages In Truro Are Up For Sale – Yes Please!

days cottages for sale

wbur – One of Cape Cod’s most iconic properties hit the market this week, and you can now own a piece of New England history.

Days cottages (or the flower cottages), the beachfront rentals located on the way to Provincetown along Route 6A in Truro, are up for sale with a price tag of $399,000 each. Listings for the cottages call it “a once in a lifetime opportunity to pick your very own flower.”

The row of 22 identical cottages has been owned by the Days family since 1931. Each is named after a flower. There’s Daisy, Zinnia, Violet, Rose and so on. Over the last eight decades, the cottages have served as a muse for artists and photographers who came to capture the essence of the Outer Cape. Plenty of tourists have been drawn to them too over the years.

Unfortunately, as much as I want one of these I think I’m going to have to pass. Is $400K a bit pricey for a tiny little cottage with zero privacy that’s in the middle of nowhere? That might have something to do with it, but there is a much bigger reason…

Basically, I don’t want to write an article about myself when I inevitably come home drunk and pass out in the wrong cottage. They all look EXACTLY alike. There is a 137% chance that if I lived in one of these things I would need to change my name to Dude Guy at some point.

P.S. Talk about a testament to how bad ass the ocean is, if you put these things in the woods in Alabama they would cost $17 each. We are all very lucky to live where we do.

How About This Douche That Stole The Donation Jar From A Cape Cod Charity?

stolen jar wellfleet

Fox – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who they say stole money that were supposed to be donations.

The man is suspected of stealing a donation jar from a nonprofit that is adjacent to Dunkin Donuts in Wellfleet. Police did not release the name of the nonprofit. The theft took place Monday, Sept. 29 just before noon, according to police.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect walking down a hallway before he put on a hat and walked out of view. Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Officer Kevin LaRocco at 508-349-3702.

Since police didn’t release the name of the nonprofit I will. It’s called Mass Appeal and it is a FREE store for the needy, if that’s not enough they also feed people, help domestic violence victims and give toys to children. Just watch this video…

So now that we know who he stole from we can all agree that this guy won the gold medal at the douchebag olympics right? How many places are there to steal from? How morally bankrupt do you have to be to steal from these saints?

This dude might as well have broken into a single mother’s house, ate all her food, stolen her kids toys and punched her in the face on the way out, it pretty much accomplishes the same thing in the end.

Mashpee Awarded Grant For Pay As You Throw Trash Program That Doesn’t Exist

obamabag

CapeNews.netGeoff Spillane – Pay-as-you-throw was on the mind of Mashpee Town Manager Joyce M. Mason and Mashpee Department of Public Works director Catherine E. Laurent before last month’s vote by the board of selectmen and this week’s public hearing.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection announced October 16 that the Town of Mashpee has been awarded $45,150 by the Patrick Administration for “pay-as-you-throw start-up funds.”

The funding is earmarked for towns establishing PAYT programs, and is disbursed to assist with start-up costs, including producing public education materials, and purchasing PAYT bags and recycling bins.

The town was also awarded $1,500 for food waste collection containers, and $1,000 for educational materials for a drop-off recycling program.

According to the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program website, the grant application would have needed to be submitted by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.

Ms. Mason said that she told Ms. Laurent to apply for the grant in the event the town decided to roll out a PAYT program.

Interesting move by Mashpee Selectmen and town officials. Not only did they quietly vote for this program, even though the citizens have voted it down twice. We now find out that they had already applied for a grant back in June? So much for transparency from public officials eh?

Here’s the thing that bothers me about “Pay As You Throw” programs. They insinuate that right now trash pick up is a free service. Not true. In most towns we have a symbiotic pay as you throw relationship with the government in place already. It’s called…

We pay taxes – You act responsibly with our money, operate with a balanced budget, and pick up our fucking trash.

It’s not a complicated relationship and it’s worked flawlessly for decades. Guess what? The people are still holding up our end of the equation, the question for the politicians is, can they say the same?
