National Grid Says: “No More Gas For You Cape Cod”

national grid gas

CapeCodOnline.com –  Property owners looking to hook up to National Grid’s natural gas line may find they have a long wait ahead of them.

The utility company has instituted a moratorium on new hookups in all of Brewster, Dennis, Yarmouth, Orleans, Eastham, Harwich, Chatham and parts of Barnstable. The halt could last until 2019…

The moratorium was prompted by a recent inspection of the main transmission line along a 21-mile stretch spanning the Mid- and Lower Cape, which revealed some of the equipment was not up to current standards.

“We made the decision to lower the pressure in the main from 200 pounds per square inch to 125 until it’s replaced,” Navarro said. “We’re still evaluating what has to be done.”

“They found they had 4-inch pipe in some places where they thought they had 6-inch,” Wolf said. “The infrastructure isn’t there so they have to ratchet back until it is.”

“Suffice it to say, the gas main is totally safe,” Navarro said. “Some of the equipment just doesn’t meet with current standards for the higher pressure, so we decided to lower it as a precaution.”

National Grid is the gas Nazi. No gas for you! Don’t worry though, 2019 is right around the corner. You’ll get your gas just in time to make some killer dip for Super Bowl 54 between the 49ers and the Neptune Blue Knights. On the bright side, you’ll be able to afford the conversion because that car you just bought will be paid off by then.

On another note, how about National Grid blowing smoke up our asses about how safe their infrastructure is as well? You aren’t fooling anyone turning the pressure down to 125 psi. We’ve all seen enough sci-fi movies to know that anytime you can only run the thrusters at 62%, something is about to explode.

Sleep well everyone, there’s a giant pipe bomb underneath us.

In The Battle For Nauset Spit Orleans Has Raised Exactly Zero Dollars

nauset

WL – Selectmen voted to set up an account to defray the expense of proving that the entirety of the Nauset Spit belongs to Orleans, but so far it is empty.

Although a portion of the spit has accreted, or grown, into Eastham, Orleans officials maintain it belongs to the town. The Cape Cod National Seashore disagrees, saying it has deeds that prove that portion of the barrier beach is the property of the federal government.

Voters at town meeting appropriated $50,000 to have attorneys and consultants look at historical records, as well as the geology of the area, to buttress the town’s case.

Most expect the endeavor will be a pricey proposition so the selectmen voted to set up an account that residents and others could contribute to.

Last week, Selectman Alan McClennen asked Town Administrator John Kelly how much was in the account.

Kelly said there was no account yet, as no one had given money. He said an account would be opened as soon as the first donation was received.

Looks like the people of Orleans have really rallied behind their fearless leaders on this one! They might want to think about using that $50,000 of taxpayer money that they are giving to a bunch of lawyers for something a little more useful.

This just might be the epitome of Cape Cod Problems. Two Cape towns and the National Seashore spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in a legal battle with each other over a pile of sand that didn’t even exist until recently. Go into a bar in Pittsburgh and try to explain to a few people how important the battle of the Nauset Spit is without getting stabbed in the face.

Yahoo Travel Says Wellfleet Drive In Is One Of The 11 Best In The Country

wellfleet drive in

Yahoo Travel – Watching a movie from the comfort of the driver’s seat with hundreds of your closest friends is a disappearing treat, but you can still find an iconic drive-in if you know where to look. These 11 are worth the drive.

As Cape Cod’s only drive-in, this Wellfleet mainstay is the only movie theater in the world where you can eat oysters while watching a flick. When not showing movies at night, the lot serves as a bustling flea market on summer weekends.

What a great honor for Wellfleet Drive In being named one of the 11 best in the country, so what if there’s only 12 drive ins in the country, it’s still impressive. Cape Cod for the win!

The Government Is Auctioning Off 742,000 Acres Of Ocean South Of The Vineyard

wind farm

CCT – Four leases for 742,000 acres of sea south of Martha’s Vineyard – an area roughly the size of Rhode Island – will be put up for bid at a wind power auction on Jan. 29, 2015.

If leased and developed by the power industry, the area has the potential to provide wind-generated electricity to 1.4 million homes, according to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, which announced the auction date Monday and pitched it as part of President Barack Obama’s climate action plan and efforts to reduce carbon pollution.

Well this should go smooth as silk. Let’s take one of the most volatile issues in Cape Cod history… and add Barack Obama’s name to it. That should definitely keep everyone calm.

Fucking socialists, now they want to take our wind and redistribute it to the masses? If poor people want wind power then maybe they should put on windmill face masks and harness the energy coming out of their pie holes every time they exhale after a Winston 100.
